Skate & Rock Series At Lee & Joe Jamail Skatepark In Houston April 16

3 new bands(at least they are to us, anyway) at Houston's spring/early summer monthly event, Skate & Rock series. Skating, live music, and a world renowned park, it's all here!

Crimewave began as the daylight started fading. The Punk Rock trio had to replace another trio that shared their drummer, The Born Liars. They played an up-beat set with a some-what standard Punk sound reminiscent of late 70's acts. They ranged from raw, semi-melodic, semi-Garage Rock influenced, to anywhere in between. They undoubtedly put on an enjoyable, and energetic set, which included a ripping cover of Big Boys "We're Not In It To Lose".

The Fun Boys replaced the Talk Sick Brats(who also share the same drummer/vocalist). They played a very interesting, and intense half an hour set of(believe it or not) Synth-Punk!(Wipe your drool Screamers fans.) Centering around raucous and rhythmic Bass and Drums, while a vintage 60's keyboard plays haunting leads, it's probably the strangest and most exciting local band that undoubtedly warrants the term Punk. Now, I'm going to blatantly play favorites here. Go see TSOL May 7, and be sure to be there early, because The Fun Boys are just one of the great opening bands.

Disfrutalos featured a large number of numbers(nearing double digits), and even wider number of instruments. They played a jam style that is a bit hard to describe, though I heard the term "sounds of the universe" used which is a decent rough summary of it. They had an indescribable range in sound and style, but one thing was apparent; every song had deep craftsmanship and amazing musicianship.

Alright! Now-... ...Ya know what? Screw the crappy intro. Pictures!
