On the first day of Punx Picnic we arrived just in time to see Houston's own Garbage Dump rip through some thrashy hardcore Punk, or Beercore as they call it.
After moshing a bit to Garbage Dump, we rushed to get an overview of the fest, and its expansive layout. All along the way there were multiple bands playing at almost any given time. Psychobilly would be ringing from the Backwoods stage, while Exile bellows out some Melodic hardcore to the ramp skaters, meanwhile Punks over at the ranch stage would be taking in some energetic Pop Punk sounds while enjoying funnel cake and one of the many campfires that could be found scattered across the ranch.
The first day was admittedly a bit hectic with a few unfortunate cancellations, including Chelsea Hotel(due to health reasons), which caused some scheduling, and line up confusion, but things smoothed over toward the end of the day.
Ending my day at the fest was another Houston band, The Wrong Ones. They began their set with some Fire breathing set to Black Sabbath musical backing, and then burst into their 70's style classic Punk sound, reminiscent of a more hyper NY Dolls. Along with their own ripping originals, they included a few covers like an eery, and fiery rendition of Iggy & The Stooges "I Wanna Be Your Dog".
