Butthole Surfers At House Of Blues In Houston September 24

It was a bit of a last minute decision(hence the fact that there weren't any posts about us being there) to go to this, but I'm glad we did. It was a really fun show and it was cool to be able to see the first show of their national tour. There was only one opening band so things moved pretty quick

The Psychic Ills had a jam(my) trance(y) sound that was backed by visuals played on the background projector and the overhead screen. Imagine a the electronic background music to CSI on steroids(or maybe something less legal...) played with the iTunes visualizer on(but with an eery 90's lo-res feel to it). That's pretty much the best way to describe it...

Butthole Surfers were amazing. Despite their claims of "being rusty" they put on a great show. They played about 20 songs in around 90 minutes. It was an ultra high-energy show with a wide variety of songs. It even had a fierce pit for a short time. Gibby spent most of his time singing and adjusting effects, though he would sometimes pull out a guitar, saxophone, or megaphone. Paul went wild on his guitar, he played every note with a fiery excitement! At points he cranked the tuning pegs back-and-forth, and it amazingly still sounded tuned afterward. Their show still features the projector movies, the smoke machine, and the flashing lights. Those looking for the fire cymbal and other dangerous feats previously seen in their shows may be a little disappointed, but even without any special effects they're still worth seeing!

Below is a set list for full "I can't believe I missed them!" effect...

Life is pleasant. Death is peaceful. It's the transition that's troublesome.
