Kirkwood Dellinger - Gold

4/2/2010

Kirkwood Dellinger is a keyboard driven Alternative band. They are known for wild stage shows and frequent visits down Punk avenues in it's experimental journey. Of course such Punk influence is natural when Elmo Kirkwood, son and nephew of The Meat Puppets Curt and Cris Kirkwood is in the band.

Today, we're taking a look at their newest album Gold which isn't due out officially until May 4th! Click "Read More" and join us!

Kirkwood Dellinger's 3rd release shows a range of elctronic sonic landscapes, and though it begins on a mellow Piano intro, it's hardly a show of the on-slot that's to come. The album ranges from upbeat music with drawing vocals, to melancholy and atmospheric numbers, to raucous songs with harsh vocals, and almost demonic Keyboard lines.

Much beyond that is hard to describe because each song is almost completely different from the last. It keeps things from getting stale, and makes KD very hard to classify. It's best to listen and discover for yourself.

Bottom Line: If you're a fan of experimental Punk-like music or a massive fan of the Butthole Surfers; then KD amy be your new favorite band!

I don't think that "polar bear island" is the best example off of the album. Definitely should've put up something like "Transmogrification" or "Colombian Gold", but, you're right about one thing: "Plants and Animals" is pretty fucking insane and so is "Emerald Front". Actually, it appears that there isn't a song on the album that sucks.

@ LGJ

I put up Polar Bear Island because Dc Jam has it loaded up. I would have chosen "Transmogrification", but at some level PBI was an easy choice.

So, I've seen a couple of KD shows since the release and one thing is plainly evident: Dellinger is the songwriting genius and Kirkwood is the personality. After listening to the album countless times, tracking them online, and seeing the shows it's clear that Kirkwood has the charisma, as he interacts with the audience in a very comfortable and entertaining way. On the other hand, from what I've seen at their shows he does, also, seem prone to having little diva fits at his band mates that are rather inappropriate at this tender non-rock star stage in his career. Dellinger is a stellar songwiter/composer; his work is without question the best written on their new release, however, he needs to develop more of a stage presence. If this band is going to go anywhere he's the one that's going to have to get them there, as he is the most marketable. As a matter of fact, the general consensus in educated circles is that Kirkwood Dellinger should/could be quite a phenomenon if they would get to work.
Btw, where the heck is their damn drummer? Their drummer is absolutely incredible, but, he's not been at the shows I've seen since the release.
