Filmed at The Meridian In Houston August 28th
Tx Punk: So we're here! ...With The Melvins! (clip fades)
Tx Punk: So, I guess to start off the interview. What's your favorite song to play live?
Buzzo: Well, on this tour I really like "Mr. DNA". It's a Devo song, it's a cover.
Coadey: I like "The Bit".
Tx Punk: You guys have played with a lot of legendary people in not just one genre, but a multiple of genres like: Gene Simmons, and Kurt Cobain... obviously back in the day, and Jello Biafra--
Buzzo: All those guys were really good too.
Tx Punk: Do you have a favorite memory? Or a favorite kind of anything of anything?(laughs)
Buzzo: Um... Gosh I don't even know... Out of those 3. Man, Biafra always got something crazy to say. Hey, Coadey. What do you think?
Coadey: About who?
Buzzo: Biafra.
Coadey: Biafra? Yeah, he's good! I think he should sing some Ethel Merman covers... "There's No Business Like Show Business". He's built for that song!
Buzzo: Yeah, but he won't do it! We tried to get him to do it but he wouldn't do it. "No way"! We also ,when we played with him, we did 2 records with him, we tried to get him to call the band the Ted Kennedys. (In a vague Biafra impression)"No, we're not calling it the Ted Kennedys".
Coadey: Now he's sorry.
Buzzo: Yeah, now he's sorry... So, then we played his 50th Birthday party. So, it was 2 nights and we had cakes made: one was like a picture of Tipper Gore that said "No Hard Feelings", and the other one was a picture of the Dead Kennedys "To my friend Jello Bia"-- "From your friend"-- err "To Jello Biafra, from your friends the Dead Kennedys"... A big picture cake(moves hands demonstrating size)... We thought it was funny... And now he's dead.
Tx Punk: Alright, um... I guess. So, you guys have done a lot of albums...
Buzzo: Yeah.
Tx Punk: A lot of Albums, and I guess your doing a remix album too.
Buzzo: Yes. It's coming out... um... It's coming out in September. Chicken Switch.
Tx Punk: And you've done lot's of collaborations. Do you ever have anyone you really wanted to collaborate with or play with in the future
Buzzo: Yes, we want to collaborate withMadonna because we heard she sells a lot of records.
Dale: Hey! What are you guys doing? (clip fades)
Tx Punk: So,what's your favorite song to play live? I asked the other guys that so...
Dale: Hmm... Favorite song um... The last one because we're almost done. Um... Uh... Um... I don't like any of them really. It's just work. It's just like going to work... It's just like going to work at McDonalds and flipping burgers... (Laughs then smiles) I really like um... (Looks to Coadey) Hey, what's that song called. Hey what's that song called that goes(motions the drum beat)
Coadey(off-screen): The do do do do do? Or the Chooga Chaga Chooga Chaga... (Dale nods) Yeah okay.
Dale: Billy Fish is what that one's called. (clip fades)
Tx Punk: So you guys plan on coming to Texas soon? Again?
Dale: Hmm... Yeah, Probably... I guess we'll tour through Texas a couple of times.
Tx Punk: So, I guess I might as well repeat the other question too. So, you guys have played with a lot of different people in a lot of different genres like: Gene Simmons, Kurt Cobain, Jello Biafra. Do you have like a favorite person you've played with or a favorite memory of something?
Dale: We got to play with Yoko Ono one time. That was pretty fun.
Tx Punk: Oh wow!
Dale: Did some really crazy stuff... We met her, and then we got on stage and played with her. But, Yeah her son, Sean, was a fan of the band. So, we did this tour with him. And see, the bands they really liked they got to play with like... Let's see f*ckin um... The Chicago(something), The Jesus Lizard, and Sonic Youth played. And they had a song that they played that sounded a lot like a Melvins song, and in fact they even said "This is our Melvins influenced song"... And, I think Sean kind of turned her on to a lot of newer music... Her being Yoko Ono and everything and she really liked our stuff... So, yeah, that was pretty cool.
Tx Punk: So, I guess I didn't get to finish this other question--
Dale: ... But, she broke up The Beatles! The B*tch!
Tx Punk: Hahaha. So, um... You guys have done a lot of collaborations and you've done a lot of albums. Is there anyone you've really wanted to collaborate with?
Dale: Hmm........ um... I'm trying to think if there's anyone...
Tx Punk: (Points backward) His answer was Madonna so...
Dale: I mean if Madonna called us we'd do it because it'd be just weird enough for us. Ya know we actually heard a rumor that Billy Gibbons wanted to do a collaboration with us. We'd do something with Billy. So, Billy if you're out there watching, give us a call man.
Tx Punk & Dale(at the same time): Alright.
Tx Punk: Thanks man.
Dale: Yeah, thanks. No problem. See you guys!
Tx Punk: We'll see you.
Dale: Bye bye.
