You've read their story! Now hear them(well, read them) in their own words! Local Legends: Contortion Session!
Picture
Tx Punk: So, what made you guys decide to get back together?

Lee: We've launched our new skateboard company EMBASSY SKATEBOARDS (Lee Leal, Contortion & John TEX Gibson, BarkHard).  It just makes sense to bring it all back.  Skating & Punk-rock go hand-in-hand.  Embassy Skateboards has alot of history embedded in it's existence.  Why not bring the band back, We're all here.  We're all still alive.  We're getting younger everyday. The attitude is right, The vibe is good.  The now generation needs to know, where it all came from. Ken Fillion & Troy Chason are a part of EMBASSY, so it just makes sense!

Tx Punk: Are there any plans of a recording of any sort?

Lee: We plan on releasing the recording from 1986 w/ George Grant on Vocals.  We're also in the lab writing new material!

Tx Punk: Do you plan on touring now that you're back together?

Lee: Some of us have domestic reponsibilities, but when an opportunity arises that can't be turned down, WE WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT!  Also I'll ad, that if there's a demand for Contortion Session, I'll crank it up to 11. The door is always OPEN.

Tx Punk: Do you have a favorite memory of being in the band?

Lee: Favorite memory was at an NSA event in Arkansas 1987.  Before we could get unloaded, we got mobbed by 200-300 kids wanting to buy shirts and cassettes.  We sold out all our merch w/in 30 minutes. Later that day, some ass-hole broke into Murph's truck and stole all our shit.  That's were the Lyrics to "Relentless" were born from.  "Stole our shit, we're gonna hunt you down, You'll never get away... We're RELENTLESS" . so with a bad thing happening, we got to write a badd-ass song.  It was worth it.  All the shit that kook stole is gone, but the song will live on forever!!! so it all turned out good!

George: I think the best time I ever had was once in Dallas we were playing w/ the Descendents or somebody?? and the show got shut down cause we didn't have a "dance hall permit", must be a Texas thang, but Craig and Dana found a club on the strip that let us set up and play on their deck, needless to say WE ROCKED, passed around the hat and made enough to party all night and get home.

Tx Punk: What's your favorite song to play live?

Lee: All the songs have their own personality.  I like playing'em all. It wouldn't be fair to say I like playing "Old Man" better than "Tight Wad"

Tx Punk: How did it feel to play together for the first time after "22 years of skipping band practice"(as one of you put it)?

Lee: Hitting the stage again after 22 years, just proved it's ALL ABOUT HAVING FUN! Ken, Troy, Murph & I have been close friends for over 27 years, some of us since 3rd grade.  So the vibe was awesome.  We all respect each other and hang out, so WHY NOT start jamming again.  The only part of the missing puzzle is not have George here, so Troy will have to take over in the VOX department.

Tx Punk: Do you have anything to say for anyone reading this?

Lee: Last words...Let's see... STAY TRUE to your roots, never loose touch of where you come from.  There's so much History embedded into the Texas Skate/Rock scene.  We just wanted to bring it back, sort of the D.I.Y. attitude.  TEXAS IS THE REASON!

George: I'll end this with 2 notes, "A man born in the shadow of a mountain can never escape that shadow" and "Any where we skate, anywhere we surf, anwhere we jam WE'RE CONTORTION SESSION.

I know no one understands the quote"a man born in the shadow of a mountain can never escape that shadow", I'll try to explain, I was born in the hills of West By God Virginia and somehow I kept getting pulled back here no matter where I traveled. I am now content in my little house very near where I grew up,I've been there, seen it , done it, smoked it, snorted it, ate it, fucked it, and so on. I have lived 2 or 3 different lives since the CS days, I'm now content to fly thru the hills on my hot rod Harley Davidson. I am finally comfortable in my skin, I accept who and what I am and I'm a better Man for it. Nuf said.

Thank you for posting this interview you've had with Lea Leal and George Grant. It's an obvious fact that they really love singing in front of many people. They will not be in the world of entertainment for almost 15 years if they do not love what they are doing. That's why it takes so much passion to be in this industry! Congratulations to the both of them. I hope they'll not disband yet!
